We know that this Topic is sometimes approached in different ways. Your students might be learning about Toys from the past, How things work, Forces & Motion, How toys have changed, Toys and games from around the world etc. Let us know prior to the Incursion and we'll ensure our Instructor focuses on the elements your students are learning about.
Students in their smaller groups will rotate through the 4 activity stations; Construction, Imagination, Up & About and Skill. The Instructor will introduce the toys in each section, explain how to use/ play with some, and tell stories and the history. Students will get to experience toys from as early as BC such as spinning tops and yo-yo's, to the 1500's with hula hoops and skipping ropes, to the late 1900's and modern day with miniature bricks and some remote control vehicles. The Instructor will pose some questions for the students to ponder whilst playing that focus in on their particular topic. We also provide follow-up worksheets that you may wish to print and copy for your students. These 20-30 minute activities are designed to consolidate the learning from the incursion, and also serve well to calm them down after all that excitement! You can download these from this page on the website. See how this incursion links to The Australian National Curriculum by following the link on this page.
