Shelter Building

Test survival skills by working in teams to create shelters that withstand the harshest elements!

RECOMMENDED FOR YEARS 3-12

Our Shelter Building Incursion provides an opportunity for students to develop their team building skills by working towards a common goal. Students will be required to design their shelter so that it works within their budget whilst consider various design elements including suitability of materials.  Students shelter must protect their whole team from the harshest weather conditions including Hurricane Supreme!

Students will learn about various types of human-made and natural shelters and discover why they are built the way they are. Students must also use their Shelter Building money wisely and brainstorm needs vs wants, calculating refunds and exchanges. All requiring communication, negotiation and team work to complete their task successfully. 

 

Our qualified teachers are fantastic at tailoring this incursion to suit your focus so please give us as much information as possible.

 

All you have to do is check the 'Important Information' below and we will do the rest.

 

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

  • A large unfurnished gymnasium or hall is required for this Incursion
  • Our instructor will arrive an hour before your start time to set up
  • This session runs for 90 minutes.
  • 42 students maximum per session (approximately) 
  • We will structure the sessions around your school timetable
  • Teachers must be present during the session
  • A minimum 75% deposit must be made 7 days from the date of booking for your incursion to go ahead.
  • You will be invoiced in accordance to your normal student numbers. Please let us know if there are any variations on the day and we will amend the invoice accordingly.

WHAT PEOPLE SAY

The students loved Brent's presentations. They were thrilled to see him a second time ( 1st time 2 months ago). Not only did he keep the activities and presentation interesting, he also built rapport with the children and even remembered student names from last incursion.

Oakleigh PS

Mel was amazing, the quality of resources and knowledge was impressive. The kids were absolutely buzzing after and we have now set up a Tinkering area in the room for the rest of the unit. Inspiring and thorough, Mel was great with managing the kids and having them engaged. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!!!

The incursion today engaged even the most disinterested students and was enjoyed by all participants. I will definitely be including mindfulness and meditation into my classroom practice after today!

We used the Billy Cart and Hip Hop incursions as activities for our Year 2 camp day. The kids loved it! The activities were structured, energetic and engaging. The kids slept beautifully that night at the sleep over. Big thanks to Mel and Brent- they were awesome with the kids!
