Get Social is a thought-provoking and reflective package that encourages students to focus on building their communicative, empathic and resilience skills through a series of fun-filled activities.
Younger students (years F-2) will explore ‘getting along’, encouragement, turn-taking and communication skills.
Our “Get Social” package incorporates the following three incursions for F-2 students;
1. Team Building:
In F-2 Team Building, students work on fundamental social skills such as getting along, listening to, and understanding that others may see things differently. Effective communication, support, and encouragement is explored, with students identifying and reflecting how words and actions can impact others. Students rotate through four foundational activities that foster these skills and are tailored to your students.
2. Billy Carts:
Teamwork abilities will be put to the test! Race around the track with our classic billy carts, taking turns to be the driver and the engine. Students work in teams to design and create their own miniature vehicle, and put their brains together to replicate another vehicle only using picture prompts.
3. Toys:
In groups, students will rotate through several stations exploring the histories, facts and design variables across a range of toy themes. Students will discover how toys have evolved by exploring their movements, cultural significance and the materials they are made from.
Older students (Years 3-8) build on trust, leadership and resilience through physical and mental problem-solving challenges.
For students in years 3-6, we recommend the following three incursions;
1. Team Building:
In 3-6 Team Building, students work on building communication, leadership and encouragement skills. Students effectively utilise their strengths to support everyone in their team and identify the importance of including others for team efficiency and success. Students rotate through four problem-solving activities tailored to the needs of your students. Students are encouraged to approach the small group challenges with a resilient mindset.
2. Billy Carts:
Expect action-packed. Burn around the track in our traditional billy carts and modern ezyrollers. Design and build moving wooden structures using real tools, and work together to build a mini steel Billy Cart. Teamwork skills are challenged and the complexity of the activities adjusted to suit needs. Investigate the fundamental principles of motion, design and performance, and provide an experience that children will talk about for years to come.
3. Maps & Mayhem:
Adventurers! Navigate your school in teams using a compass and iPads. Deciphering hidden clues and crack codes to score points and find hidden treasure. Work in teams to compete in and complete a part-escape room and part-treasure hunt challenge. Students learn the principles of direction, orientation, mapping, and deciphering codes. It’s innovative, it’s fast-paced and it’s an adventure that you will not want to miss.
By adapting this incursion to suit your focus needs, our qualified teachers will guide all students through each learning activity, prompting them to observe, investigate, communicate and reflect along the way.
Various activities and equipment are used to extend student learning and encourage students to reflect on their performance and how such skills are essential in the ‘real world’. If this sounds like a pathway to improved student behaviour and performance, then stop waiting and GET SOCIAL.
