The storm is almost here!
Will your shelter make it through?
Activities
Working in small teams, students will:
- Design and build miniature shelters using a variety of building bricks and materials, meeting specific budget, weather, and construction requirements.
- Work together to solve design challenges, sharing ideas and making group decisions.
- Explore shapes and building techniques to understand what makes structures strong and stable.
- Develop awareness of materials and their impact, discussing the role of sustainability and how thoughtful selection of materials can improve both environmental impact and shelter performance.
- Test their shelters under “storm” conditions, observing how their designs respond to challenges, and revise their designs.
- Reflect on the process and outcomes, using critical thinking and discussion to explore what worked, what didn’t, and why, evaluating the success of their build.
